At Beacon, sustainability has always been a part of that bold vision for the future. But today, we face planet-scale challenges. So our strategy to achieve that vision has never been more important.

Our environmental, social good, governance, and resilience goals underpin every element of our process—from building selection and planning, to construction and management. We’ve set ambitious emissions reduction targets and are taking tangible steps in every project to build healthier ecosystems, thriving communities, vibrant workplaces, and a future that works for everyone.

ESG + R Environmental
From the outset, we aim to keep our environmental footprint light through investment strategies that prioritize building modernization, adaptive reuse, and sustainable development. We champion environmental efficiency in every building we own, earmarking at least 10% of a property’s capital plan for sustainability-related projects that help reduce energy usage, conserve water, and minimize waste. We’ve received the EPA’s ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Award for the past 12 years and aim to be carbon neutral with net-zero carbon emissions on our entire portfolio by 2050 or sooner.
Social Good
We believe a sustainable future is one where everyone is healthy and fulfilled. For our tenants, this means creating workplaces that put health and wellness first. For our local communities, this means collaborating to ensure that we’re integrating our buildings seamlessly into the community. And for our employees, that means expanding equity within our company and among our partners, including partnering with minority- and women-owned businesses.
Governance
We pride ourselves on our oversight and so we take a disciplined approach to governance to ensure we’re delivering on our commitments effectively and transparently. Our ESG+R task force meets regularly to track progress and keep us aligned with our goals. In the interest of transparency, we release annual ESG+R reports detailing our performance and sharing our plans for the future.
Resilience
Part of building sustainably is ensuring that what we build lasts. We work proactively to identify, evaluate, and address risks to our tenants and our buildings posed by climate change, political turmoil, and cyber attacks.
