2 Harbor Street in the Seaport district of Boston is a cutting-edge life science building that has been designed with sustainability and resilience in mind.

Built from the ground up with sustainability and resilience in mind, 2 Harbor is a dynamic life-science destination that’s always one step ahead. The campus features distinctive architecture, world-class R&D facilities, welcoming open space, and wellness-infused amenities—all with an eye toward the historic Boston Harbor.

Its harborside location was an inspiration for more than just the building’s design and amenities. The unique positioning challenged us to consider sustainability at every turn. The lobby level, for example, is set above Boston’s 2070 flood elevation plane and has sloped ground-level green areas to mitigate flooding. This has the added benefit of promoting rainwater absorption and creating a natural barrier from the street to the entry way.

The light-colored pavement, façade, and white membrane roof was not only a distinctive design choice—it also reduces the potential heat island effect in the harborside Seaport neighborhood. In addition, 2 Harbor also boasts 24,207 KwH of rooftop solar panels, along with efficient HVAC, lighting, and a Demand Response program.
